My great-grandparents from both my mother and father immigrated to the US from Russia in the 1800’s. They settled in Nebraska to start and eventually made their way to Colorado.

On my Dad’s side I have eight aunts and uncles. On my Mom’s side, I have 13!. Every Aunt and Uncle had at least two children, some had four or five, but they all had at least two except my mom’s youngest sister who had Down’s Syndrome.

I am the youngest of ALL of my cousins. My nearest cousin on my mom’s side is 5 years older than me, and my nearest cousin on my dad’s side is 10 years older than me. I don’t even know how many I have to be honest.
I have second cousins older than me, and I have a niece older than me. I was born late in life, so when they say I was the baby of the family, I was the baby.
If my youngest grandparent was alive today, she would be 136! My father would be 98 and my mom 97!

I only have one uncle still alive. He is the widower of my dad’s youngest sister, and he is in his 90’s.

Currently, I have cousins and nieces and nephews, with children who have children, living in Morgan, Logan, Douglas, Jefferson, Boulder, Broomfield, Larimer, and Weld counties, and maybe more, those are just the places I know.
So when I say I have six generations living here. I’m not joking. In fact, the sixth generation is even my immediate family.
My immediate family! We were missing just one great-niece and one great-nephew here!
Generation 1: My great-grandparents on both sides settled in Morgan County where they farmed. My maternal great-grandparents eventually found their way to Eaton.
Generation 2: My fraternal grandparents stayed in Morgan county. My maternal grandparents moved to Weld County (Greeley). My maternal grandmother is in the photo of her citizenship document.
Generation 3: My parents lived in both Morgan and Weld County (where I was born and raised in House District 50, living there for all but six years of my 56 years).
Generation 4: Myself, my brother and my sister. I and my brother stayed in Weld, my sister is out of state, but was in Weld for the better part of her life.

Generation 5: My son, my nieces and nephews. My son, my nephew and one niece are still in Weld County (Greeley). One niece is in Douglas County. One niece is out of state.
Generation 6: My great nephews and nieces. My Nephew in Weld has a son attending school in Greeley. My niece in Weld has a son living in Boulder County. My niece in Douglas has two children both attending schools there.
I am fourth generation Weld County resident, and second generation NATIVE. My son is fifth generation Weld County resident himself, and third generation NATIVE Weld County.
So why am I telling you all this? It’s to drive home why I love Weld County and Colorado so much!
I moved to Wyoming permanently in May 2024. Colorado is not the state I grew up in. But I’m also not willing to abandon it and everyone I love and care about. I just need to do my fighting from Wyoming for a while.
